Creating a New Map

To start a new map, go to your dashboard and click Create New. From here you have two options:

  • Canvas, a drag and drop whiteboard style mapper.

  • FixFlow, a linear, step by step builder.

Once you choose a mode:

  1. Enter a workflow name.

  2. Choose the currency for the project. This is used for all cost calculations within the map.

  3. Click Start to open the mapper.

FixFlow vs Canvas: Choosing the Right Mode

Both FixFlow and Canvas use the same step types and the same language, so the experience feels consistent between them. The difference is in what each mode is designed for.

FixFlow is a linear builder. It starts with a single trigger at the top, and steps are added underneath, one after another. FixFlow supports one branching decision point within that sequence. It is designed for analyzing and improving a single, focused part of a process, since it works best when you are looking at one clear path with at most one decision.

Canvas is a drag and drop whiteboard. It allows you to add any number of steps, triggers, and branches, and to arrange them freely. It is designed for mapping and documenting an entire end to end process, including complex processes with several decision points and paths.

A helpful way to think about it: use FixFlow when you want to fix and analyze one part of a process, and use Canvas when you want to document the whole system.

Generating a Map from a Prompt or Transcript

Instead of building a map step by step, you can generate a first draft automatically using AI map generation.

  1. When creating a new FixFlow or Canvas map, click Start from Prompt.

  2. Either paste in a transcript of the process being described, or type a written explanation of the process.

  3. The tool will generate a process map based on what you provided.

Once your first draft has been generated, go into each step to review and complete the details. The generator will attempt to suggest who is assigned to a step and which tools are used, but you should still check and confirm the person, the tools, and the time and cost for every step, since these details drive the accuracy of any later analysis.
